LATON SCHOOLS
This photo of the original building was taken in approximately 1917.
The first graduating class was in 1908 and prior to that time, high school classes were held in a room at the Laton Grammar School. From an October 1905 newspaper article we learned that the need of a high school in the town was presented to the Board of Trustees by the new (and first) high school principal, Thomas Maitland Marshall. By the time it was discussed and approved, funds raised, property found, plans drawn up, then the construction of the school, we realized that the building couldn't have been started, at the earliest, until sometime in 1906 and most likely completed in mid 1907. The school year of 1907/1908 would have been the first time that students would be taught at the new high school.

GRAMMAR SCHOOLS - In the past, there were a number of grammar schools that fed into Laton High School; Hardwick, Laton, Laguna, Conejo, Hanford Christian, Grant, and Duke.
